Church HistoryThe Community United Methodist Church congregation was established in 1925, the "daughter" of Trinity United Brethren Church, New Cumberland.

On April 12, 1925 the congregation purchased its original church  from a church in Mount Wolf, PA for $3,500.  The church in Mount Wolf was torn down and rebuilt on the lot at 16th and Bridge streets.

On June 7, 1925 the Church cornerstone was laid.

The first services in the new building were held on August 16, 1925

Reverend D. Floyd Mowrey began serving as the pastor on October 11, 1925.

The United Brethren and Evangelical Churches merged into one body in 1946.  The new church was called the Evangelical United Brethren Church.

In 1949 ground was broken to build an addition to the church.  This new addition was and still is called Fellowship Hall.

Fellowship Hall was completed and dedicated in 1950.  The new structure provided rooms for the church Sunday School.

A second floor was added to Fellowship Hall in 1956.  This addition completed the Sunday School facilities.

Also in 1956, Reverend Mowrey retired from ministry.  The Reverend Curvin Thompson became the church's new pastor.

The old church sanctuary was torn down in 1960 and replaced with the current structure.  A circular stained glass image of  Christ was saved from the original church and is on display within the church.

The Evangelical United Brethren Church merged with the Methodist Church to form the United Methodist Church in 1968.

Reverend Curvin Thompson retired in 1978.  He was succeeded by the Reverend William Lippert.   Reverend William Lippert retired in 1985 and was succeeded by the current pastor, Reverend Lawrence Focht.

Community United Methodist Church was made fully handicap accessible in 1990.

Community United Methodist Church's congregation of approximately 400 represents families and individuals of all age groups from many of the neighborhoods in the Greater Harrisburg Area.
